Return to Idlewild is a Taylor Childs Studio pop up activation presented in partnership with CONTAINER, a mobile artist residency that transforms shipping containers into traveling creative labs across Detroit. CONTAINER uplifts mid career Black artists working in food, fashion, visual art, and music, providing space, resources, and visibility to expand their practices.
This collaboration connects two historic sites of Black cultural production—Detroit and Idlewild—often referred to as “Black Eden.” Through music, gathering, and contemporary Black artistry, the activation honors lineage while building new cultural pathways between past and present. By featuring CONTAINER’s musical residents, the project reimagines Idlewild as a living space of return, celebration, and ongoing creative exchange. See returntoidlewild.com for lodging pricing.
